Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, spoke on the 15th at the Supreme Council meeting held at a tent protest in front of the National Assembly’s main building. He urged for a coalition among opposition parties to push for a special investigation law to probe the allegations of money transactions with the Unification Church by political circles, stating, “The process of aligning with the Reform New Party is the beginning.”
At the Supreme Council meeting in front of the National Assembly, Jang said, “The Lee Jae-myung administration is an unprecedentedly ruthless and brutal power. To counter this, everyone must unite and fight together.” He stressed the importance of joint efforts among all opposition parties concerned for the country and its people to block the eight major evil laws, expressing hopes for meaningful discussions to follow.
Jang also criticized the Democratic Party for rejecting the ‘Unification Church special investigation law’ and instead pursuing a ‘second comprehensive special probe’ following the end of three major special investigations. He pointed out, “They are trying to cover up their crimes while continuing incitement of rebellion and political retribution,” adding, “Those who refuse a special investigation are the suspects,” and returned the phrase often used by President Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party.
Furthermore, Jang accused Special Counsel Min Jung-gi of ignoring testimonies that the Unification Church gave money to the Democratic Party until the statute of limitations almost expired, calling it a “legendary biased investigation.”
He also alleged that “President Lee Jae-myung muzzled the Unification Church by threatening dissolution of religious groups at a Cabinet meeting just before his trial,” questioning the extent of involvement of Democratic Party members and the president’s aides that led the president to personally issue threats.
Jang argued, “There is a high possibility of prior collusion between the special counsel and the president,” claiming “this is a clear cover-up of a power-related crime involving the president. There can be no clearer reason for a special investigation.”
In regards to the government work report being broadcasted since the 11th, he criticized, “President Lee Jae-myung’s remarks are becoming increasingly harsh.” Citing an incident on the 12th, where the president raised his voice at the CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation during a report, he remarked, “The nation was once again astonished,” revealing that the finger-pointed at dollar smuggling was actually the method used in Samseong’s illicit remittances to North Korea, essentially confessing his crime method during a work report session.
Additionally, he commented on President Lee’s statements during a work report session from the Northeast Asia Historical Foundation, mentioning, “Isn’t there a ‘hwanppa’ debate?” and insisted that “Hwandangogi is a document,” accusing the president of attempting to rewrite history with his words.
