Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, criticized on the 6th that “the country has become a lawless land. Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, is manipulating the entire judicial and investigative bodies as well as the National Assembly.”
On social media, Mayor Hong remarked, “Suddenly, Lee Jae-myung is withdrawing the treason frame and reorganizing the impeachment motion. They are conspiring with the judge and the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials to attempt the illegal arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol.”
Previously, the National Assembly’s impeachment committee indicated to the Constitutional Court that the reason for President Yoon’s impeachment regarding treason under criminal law would be withdrawn. The People Power Party insists that the impeachment bill must be re-voted in the National Assembly and criticizes it as a measure to shield leader Lee Jae-myung. On the other hand, the Democratic Party argues that it intends to address the act of rebellion as a constitutional violation rather than a criminal one.
Mayor Hong stated, “I have consistently opposed impeachment, claiming that it is not treason but merely a political frame imposed by Lee Jae-myung.” He argued, “Rather, it is Lee Jae-myung who is planning and leading a rebellion disguised as lawful.”
He added, “The media is still overwhelmingly critical of President Yoon, and the collective madness of the leftists is at its peak,” but emphasized, “But mark my words, it will not be one-sided as it was during (former President) Park Geun-hye’s time.”
