The government stated on the 19th, regarding the controversy over personal overseas direct purchases (direct purchases), that “it is not true that 80 items of overseas direct purchases that have not received domestic safety certification are being blocked or prohibited.”
Deputy Head Lee Jung-won of the State Affairs Planning Office said in a briefing that day, “It is not true that a pre-emptive block of 80 items of overseas direct purchases is in place, and we have not even considered such a measure.”
After the announcement of the “Enhancement of Consumer Safety and Improvement of Corporate Competitiveness in Response to the Surge in Overseas Direct Purchases” on the 16th, there was a controversy over the government banning overseas direct purchases.
The deputy head explained, “The government plans to conduct a concentrated pre-safety assessment by relevant ministries on 80 items, and the basic plan of the government is to filter out items that are confirmed to be safe through pre-assessments and proceed with blocking them.”
Regarding the KC certification presented as a way to ensure the safety of direct purchases, the government stated, “KC certification is not the only method, and we will carefully consider various opinions after collecting them.”
