Democratic Party to Investigate ‘Yoon’s Insurrection’ with Permanent Special Prosecutor… Plans to Address in the Plenary Session on the 10th

“Obstructed by Veto if Pursuing General Special Prosecutor… First Permanent Special Prosecutor to be Implemented”

“The Democratic Party of Korea decided on the 5th to push forward with an investigation through a permanent special prosecutor on the ‘martial law declaration’ incident by President Yoon Suk-yeol.”

“In a meeting with reporters at the National Assembly, Chief Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae stated, ‘Our goal is to pass the permanent special prosecutor proposal in the National Assembly on the 10th.'”

“The Democratic Party had previously submitted a request for a permanent special prosecutor to the National Assembly, concerning three allegations related to Kim Kun-hee, including stock manipulation involving Sambo Construction. However, Cho explained that they would first process the request for a permanent special prosecutor to investigate the martial law declaration as a rebellion charge, making it the ‘first permanent special prosecutor.'”

“A permanent special prosecutor can be activated with just the passing of the investigation proposal in the National Assembly’s plenary session, bypassing the presidential veto on the special prosecutor law.”

“In response to a question about why the rebellion charge is being pursued as a permanent special prosecutor, Chief Spokesperson Cho said, ‘It’s to carry out the investigation as quickly as possible,’ adding, ‘Isn’t it obvious that the president would exercise a veto if we proposed a general special prosecutor law?'”

“Separately, the Democratic Party will file charges of rebellion against President Yoon, former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, former Chief of Staff of the Army Park An-soo, former Commander of the Counterintelligence Command Yeo In-hyung, former Commander of the Capital Defense Command Lee Jin-woo, former Special Warfare Commander of the Army Kwak Jong-geun, and former Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency Jo Ji-ho, at the National Investigation Headquarters.”

“While the constitution grants the president immunity from criminal prosecution during their term, the crimes of ‘rebellion or treason’ are exceptions.”

“Previously, the National Revolutionary Party and the Reform Party also filed similar charges against President Yoon at the National Investigation Headquarters and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, respectively.”

“Meanwhile, the Democratic Party plans to proceed as scheduled with the re-vote on the ‘Kim Kun-hee Special Prosecutor Law’ in the plenary session on the 10th.”
