Choi Soo-jin, a member of the People Power Party, announced her candidacy for the party’s Supreme Council election. On the 1st, at the National Assembly’s Communication Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, Choi declared her intention to run, stating her goal to transform the People Power Party into a rational conservative, competent, and competitive party aligned with the people.
Choi emphasized the need for actionable reform and substantive change, promising to rebuild the party as a rational conservative party that meets the public’s expectations and as a capable policy-driven party. She highlighted her commitment to the party through various roles, especially in challenging times.
She also committed to creating a strong party that stands against what she described as the “tyranny” of the Lee Jae-myung administration and to representing the people’s voice against the government’s mistakes. Choi emphasized collaboration within the party to form a united front.
Choi vowed to pave the way for regaining governance through rational alternative politics, leading reforms in the party’s candidate nomination system, and expanding communication channels to include diverse voices. She aims to increase youth political participation and strengthen communication with the public.
Furthermore, Choi promised to prioritize economic and livelihood-first policy initiatives, focusing on policies for the socially disadvantaged, youth, seniors, and women, while enhancing support for small business owners and SMEs. She seeks to achieve broad conservative unity through social integration.
In response to a question from reporters about the ideal party leader, Choi expressed hope for numerous candidates who could build an innovative and future-oriented party. Addressing intra-party factional conflicts, Choi acknowledged the challenge and expressed the need for unity and shared direction to avoid future difficulties. She described the party’s principal opponent as the Lee Jae-myung administration and emphasized the importance of making the party a healthy, diverse organization to emerge as a stronger conservative force.
The People Power Party’s national convention is scheduled for the 22nd of this month in Cheongju, Chungbuk.
