Chairman Woo says, “The ROK-U.S. tariff negotiations have been concluded… Bipartisan support will be provided.”

Woo Won-shik, the Speaker of the National Assembly, expressed his support for the news of the resolution of tariff negotiations with the United States on the 31st, stating, “I will spare no bipartisan support to protect the national economy and the rights of the people.”

Woo, who is visiting Switzerland and Romania to attend the 6th World Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, shared on Facebook that day, “I will do my best to engage in close communication with the government and provide the necessary legislative and policy support.”

He praised the negotiation team for prioritizing national interests and achieving an agreement despite limited time and challenging conditions. He expressed optimism that the outcome of these negotiations would improve competitive conditions in the U.S. market, providing significant opportunities for Korean companies to expand their markets and enhance export competitiveness.

Additionally, Woo highlighted the prevention of further opening in the agriculture and livestock sectors, a concern for many, as a highly meaningful achievement. He also noted the inclusion of the shipbuilding industry, which can foster mutual benefits between the U.S. and Korea, as a significant element.

Woo emphasized, “Trade should be based on mutual respect and cooperation rather than unilateral sacrifice, leading to mutual prosperity for both countries.” He expressed hope that the conclusion of the negotiation would contribute positively without damaging the deep friendship and solidarity forged between the U.S. and South Korea.

He urged all government departments to fully commit to remaining negotiations and to meticulously analyze the details of the current agreement to prepare for further actions.
