Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik requested the relevant standing committee to investigate the lack of explicit mention of the forced nature of Korean forced labor in the exhibition space of the Japanese Sado Gwangsan.
An official from the National Assembly explained that they requested the Secretaries of the Culture and Foreign Affairs Committees to look into the facts in detail.
In addition, Lee Hae-sik, senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, criticized the government in a commentary, saying, “The government had enough justification to prevent inclusion on the World Heritage list, but it ignored the voice of the people and sided with Japan.”
Earlier, members of the main opposition party’s Foreign Affairs Committee expressed their opinion that “substantial measures have been taken to encompass the entire history of forced mobilization in Sado Gwangsan.”
