On the 12th, Kwon Seong-dong, elected as the new floor leader of the People Power Party, started forming a new parliamentary leadership team by appointing Park Hyung-soo and Kim Dae-sik as the senior deputy floor leader and chief secretary to the floor leader, respectively.
During a press conference, Kwon mentioned that Seo Ji-young has been appointed as the floor spokesperson but noted that the final structure is yet to be confirmed, with plans to announce the new team the following day. Park, a former prosecutor, was re-elected in the recent general elections after changing constituencies within North Gyeongsang Province. He previously served as the floor spokesperson when Kwon was first elected as the floor leader in 2022.
First-term lawmaker Kim, chosen as the chief secretary to the floor leader, was elected in Busan’s Sasang district following the non-candidacy of former lawmaker Jang Je-won. First-term lawmaker Seo Ji-young, from Busan Dongnae, takes on the role of floor spokesperson.
Following the completion of the new leadership formation, Kwon plans to discuss party consensus regarding the impeachment of President Yoon on the 14th. He stated that a parliamentary meeting would take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday to hear members’ opinions on potentially amending the party’s stance on impeachment and voting procedures in the plenary session.
When asked about Han Dong-hoon’s remarks on President Yoon’s expulsion from the party made after President Yoon Suk-yeol’s statement, Kwon declined to comment, stating it would be inappropriate to express a view as the floor leader.
