The non-Lee Jae-myung faction of the Democratic Party criticized Chairman Lee Jae-myung for accusing fellow lawmakers of colluding with the prosecution or the People Power Party without any basis, calling it character assassination and a grave defamation.
The group of former lawmakers from the Democratic Party’s non-Lee faction, “Choilhwae,” released a statement saying that Chairman Lee should immediately apologize for his reckless remarks.
They further criticized that while Chairman Lee talks about party unity, his divisive remarks are akin to smiling in front while stabbing in the back, questioning if his unification efforts were merely a show.
In response, Chairman Lee met with reporters at the National Assembly, stating that although there may be differing views, the priority now is to gather all the party’s capabilities to overcome the current confusion, emphasizing that the matter is already in the past.
Chairman Lee’s side explained that the previous remarks were made in the context of creating an environment where party members can make judgments themselves, and reiterated that the Chairman is focused on party reconciliation and unity for integration, leaving past issues behind.
