‘2.0 TDI’ achieves 860 km per fuel tank
Expansion of MIB4 ‘Infotainment Display’
Equipped with ‘Voice Enhancer’ voice support system
Volkswagen Korea has introduced the facelifted model of its best-selling “Golf” to boost domestic sales. The Golf, the first new car to be launched by Volkswagen Korea in the first half of this year, is expected to set a new standard for hatchbacks in the import car market with its advanced design and specifications.
The Volkswagen Golf, an iconic model that set the standard for hatchbacks, has sold over 37 million units globally. Last year marked the Golf’s 50th anniversary, and it has achieved a cumulative sales record of 54,644 units in Korea, becoming the first imported compact hatchback to surpass 50,000 units.
The new Golf features a bold, refined design that emphasizes its presence, an intuitive and user-friendly next-generation MIB4 infotainment system, and enhanced convenience features that improve its overall quality.
The MIB4 infotainment system, standard across all models, features an expanded display from the previous 10 inches to 12.9 inches, offering excellent visibility and intuitive control of key functions and systems via a touchscreen. Frequently used menus can be positioned directly in a three-part interface, enhancing operational convenience.
The new voice support system, “Voice Enhancer,” is also standard on all models. It facilitates smooth communication between the driver and rear passengers through a hands-free microphone and rear seat speakers.
Advanced convenience features are also varied. The driver assistance system “IQ Drive,” which integrates various driving assistance systems, as well as adaptive cruise control, front collision avoidance assistance, and emergency assist are standard.
Convenience features include front seat heating, 30-color ambient lighting, and a wireless phone charging function in all models. The Prestige trim offers a 3-zone Climatronic automatic air conditioning, windshield head-up display, and panoramic sunroof.
The new Golf is equipped with the EA288 evo 2.0 TDI engine. The “twin dosing technology,” which uses two SCR catalytic converters, reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by about 80% compared to the previous generation, meeting the latest European emissions regulations Euro 6d standards. Combined with a 2.0L TDI engine and 7-speed DSG transmission, it delivers a maximum output of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 36.7 kg·m.
The new Golf continues the model’s renowned high fuel efficiency. The certified combined fuel economy of the new Golf 2.0 TDI model is 17.3 km per liter, boasting the highest efficiency among compact segment models. As a result, the new Golf can travel over 860 km on a single tank of fuel in combined conditions and over 1,000 km at highway speeds.
The price for the new Golf is 40.07 million won for the Premium model and 43.96 million won for the Prestige model. To commemorate the launch of the new Golf, Volkswagen Korea will support 2 million won for vehicle registration for purchasing customers. Following the release of the new Golf 2.0 TDI model, Volkswagen Korea plans to officially launch the high-performance model “New Golf GTI” in the domestic market this June.
Till Scheer, CEO of Volkswagen Group Korea, stated, “For the past half-century, the Golf has been at the center of the Volkswagen brand, providing the highest level of technology and reasonable mobility to everyone. With its refined technology and design, the new Golf is poised to offer premium compact car customers the ultimate satisfaction.”
