This morning, Seoul recorded a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, marking the highest minimum temperature for any day in May since weather observations began in 1907. As the traditional Korean calendar term “Soman” suggests, which indicates the onset of summer, the hot weather will continue throughout the day.
Daytime temperatures in the inland areas of Gangwon, Chungcheong, and the southern inland regions are expected to rise to around 30 degrees Celsius. With high humidity levels, it will feel even more sweltering. However, in the eastern coastal regions influenced by the easterly winds, such as Sokcho at 19 degrees and Uljin at 23 degrees, temperatures will be nearly 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, making it feel more refreshing.
There is rain in the forecast every other day. Today, in the morning, a few places in the metropolitan area, inland mountain areas of Gangwon, northern Chungnam, and southern coasts may experience some rain. By late afternoon, Jeju Island could receive 10 to over 60 millimeters of rain in some parts.
In the afternoon, due to unstable atmospheric conditions, showers ranging from 5 to 40 millimeters may occur at times in eastern Gyeonggi, Gangwon, inland Chungcheong, and southern inland areas. Regions experiencing rain or showers may experience strong winds, thunder, lightning, and even hail in some places.
Daytime temperatures will be slightly cooler than yesterday with Seoul at 27 degrees, Chuncheon, Daejeon, and Jeonju at 30 degrees, and Daegu at 29 degrees.
The sea waves will be relatively high, reaching up to 2.5 meters in the southern seas off Jeju Island.
