The National Heritage Administration: “Joint Investigation of Kaesong Manwoldae with North Korea…Restoration of Geumgangsan Temples as well.”

The Cultural Heritage Administration has expressed its intention to resume a joint North-South investigation into the Manwoldae ruins in Kaesong, which holds the history of the Goryeo dynasty. Although the investigation was conducted eight times since 2007, it was halted in 2018. The agency also plans to discuss a cooperative framework for the restoration of Yujeomsa, one of the four major temples in the recently UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mount Kumgang area.

The state agency revealed its heritage policy and key projects, aiming to reconnect the strained inter-Korean relations. These include joint investigations of the Kaesong Manwoldae ruins, the Cheorwon Fortress of the Taebong Kingdom, and the restoration of Yujeomsa. The goals also encompass expanding the designation of “Korean Tidal Flats” and creating a representative cultural heritage product shop at Gyeongbokgung Palace.

The Cultural Heritage Administration aims to develop AI models specialized for national heritage to prevent historical distortions. The initiative will kick off next year to establish an AI ecosystem that generates national heritage content, offering a customized interpretative service without the constraints of time, space, or language.

Furthermore, the agency is preparing for the successful hosting of the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan. Other proposals include expanding the nighttime opening of palaces, establishing Korean traditional landscapes in overseas major countries, and increasing financial support to promote the global value of K-Heritage.
