Tomorrow, Seoul to hit -13℃, coldest this winter… Wind chill to feel like -20℃

‘[Anchor]’,
The ‘Ipchun cold wave’ is expected to continue throughout this week, with temperatures in Seoul dropping to a winter low of -13℃ tomorrow, bringing the peak of the cold.
Heavy snow is expected to accumulate in Jeju Island and the west coast until the day after tomorrow, warranting caution.

‘[Reporter]’,
Yes, despite it being midday, Seoul’s temperature is currently at -2.5℃, and due to strong winds, the perceived temperature is at -7.7℃.
This is because a strong cold air mass with an upper temperature of -40℃ has descended from the northwest.
Tomorrow, temperatures will drop further in Seoul, with the morning temperature expected to hit -13℃, the lowest this winter, and wind chill dropping to -20℃.

Nationwide, temperatures are expected to fall below -10℃, with wind chill making it feel even colder.

As a result, cold wave warnings have been issued for northeastern Seoul, eastern Gyeonggi, Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, and northern Gyeongbuk. Cold wave advisories are in effect for southwestern Seoul, western Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, parts of Yeongnam, and some areas in Honam.

This ‘Ipchun cold wave’ is expected to peak tomorrow and the day after, with severe cold persisting throughout the week. Temperatures are forecast to return to seasonal norms by next Tuesday.

‘[Anchor]’,
Along with the cold, heavy snow is also forecasted for the west coast?

‘[Reporter]’,
Yes, this is due to the strong cold air passing over the West Sea, which is developing snow clouds.
These snow clouds first reached Jeju Island this morning, extended to the Honam west coast by the afternoon, and are now affecting the Chungnam west coast.

Heavy snow advisories are in place for Jeju Island, western Honam, and the Chungnam west coast.
Until the day after tomorrow, over 40cm of snow is expected in the mountainous areas of Jeju, up to 25cm or more in Chungnam’s west coast and Jeonbuk, and 5cm to 15cm in Jeonnam.

In particular, the Chungnam west coast and western Honam may experience heavy snow of 1cm to 3cm per hour tomorrow.
With snow already accumulated in mountainous and some inland areas, it’s crucial to prepare thoroughly to prevent damage.

Additionally, snow that falls in the severe cold is likely to freeze immediately, increasing the risk of slippery roads, so extra caution is needed for icy roads and black ice.
