The end of autumn already, time to prepare padded jackets… First snowfall in the mountainous areas of Gangwon.

With morning temperatures dropping to around 10 degrees within a day, an early winter chill is expected. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, on the 20th, the nationwide morning low temperature will range from 2 to 14 degrees, which is a significant drop of 5 to 10 degrees compared to the previous day, when the nationwide morning low was 12.8 degrees. The strong winds will make the perceived temperature even lower, requiring extra attention to health management.

In major areas, the temperatures are expected to be 5 degrees in Seoul, 4 degrees in Incheon and Suwon, 7 degrees in Chuncheon and Jeonju, 5 degrees in Daejeon and Sejong, 8 degrees in Gwangju, 10 degrees in Daegu, and 15 degrees in Busan and Jeju.

Rain is expected in the eastern part of Gangwon and along the east coast and northeastern mountains of North Gyeongsang, as well as in the eastern part of the Gyeongsangnam-do region. The rain, forecasted to continue until the 21st, will bring 10 to 50mm to the eastern part of Gangwon and 5 to 30mm to the Gyeongsang region. As cold air moves southward, rain in the high mountains of northern Gangwon may turn into snow in the morning, with expected snowfall of around 1 cm.

Frost is expected in some inland areas of Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, inland areas of the Chungcheong region, and high mountainous areas in eastern Jeollabuk-do.

There is a possibility of strong winds with gusts exceeding 70 km/h (20 m/s) in coastal areas of western Chungnam and Jeolla, which may lead to the issuance of a wind warning. Gale warnings are also expected for the seas off the west coast, the open seas of southwest Korea, and the western seas off Jeju.

By the 22nd, morning temperatures are expected to drop to around 2 degrees in some places, continuing the cold weather until the morning of the 23rd, when temperatures will slightly recover to 6 degrees. However, early winter weather with morning temperatures falling below 5 degrees in some areas is expected to continue into the next week.
