[Edaily’s Jang Byung-ho] The 2025 Tongyeong International Music Festival has seen a rapid sell-out of tickets thanks to the popularity of pianist Lim Yunchan, the selected resident performer.
On the 13th, the Tongyeong International Music Foundation announced that tickets for the opening performances, ‘Tongyeong Festival Orchestra I’ and ‘Lim Yunchan Piano Recital,’ sold out as soon as reservations began at 11 a.m. on the 11th. According to the foundation, ‘Lim Yunchan Piano Recital’ sold out in 58 seconds, followed 2 seconds later by ‘Tongyeong Festival Orchestra I.’
The shows ‘Tongyeong Festival Orchestra II’ and ‘Pablo Ferrandez & Sunwoo Yekwon,’ which also quickly sold out, will have additional seats opened at 2 p.m. on the 13th.
The 2025 Tongyeong International Music Festival, themed ‘Journey Inwards,’ will be held from March 28 to April 6 at the Tongyeong Concert Hall. Along with Lim Yunchan, Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrandez has been selected as a resident performer and Danish contemporary composer Hans Abrahamsen as the resident composer.
Particularly, the selection of Lim Yunchan as a resident performer has drawn significant attention even before the festival’s opening. The foundation stated, “There were a flood of inquiries about joining as supporting members, who have an early reservation opportunity a day before general sales, but we are regulating the number of support members for their convenience,” adding that “we have not been accepting new support members since the second half of this year.” Furthermore, they mentioned, “Accommodations around the Tongyeong Concert Hall are swamped with inquiries and are fully booked due to the music festival.”
The 10-day 2025 Tongyeong International Music Festival will feature a total of 29 official performances. Notable participants include early music maestro René Jacobs with B’Rock Orchestra, world’s top contemporary music ensemble Ensemble intercontemporain, violinists Ilya Gringolts and Kim Hyun-seo, pianists Sunwoo Yekwon, Moon Ji-young, Kim Tae-hyung, and Seonyul, hornist Yoo Hae-ri, pansori master Lee Ja-ram, soprano Hwang Su-mi, Georgia Jarman, tenor Miles Mykkanen, baritone Kim Ki-hoon, Ébène Quartet, Belcea Quartet, Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ilan Volkov, Taiwan’s WeiWuYing Contemporary Music Ensemble, and K’ARTS Symphoniatta conducted by Yoon Han-gyeol.
