Seoul Issues ‘Fine Dust Advisory’… First Time This Winter

“An ‘ultrafine dust advisory’ was issued for all areas of Seoul as of 3 PM today (29th).

This is the first ultrafine dust advisory issued in Seoul this winter.

An ultrafine dust advisory is issued when the hourly average concentration is 75㎍/㎥ or higher for more than two hours.

The hourly average concentration of ultrafine dust across Seoul’s 25 districts recorded 78㎍/㎥ at 2 PM and 79㎍/㎥ at 3 PM, indicating a ‘very poor’ level.

The Seoul Institute of Health and Environment explained that air pollutants brought in from abroad lingered in the metropolitan area today (29th), combining with residual fine dust from the previous day, leading to increased ultrafine dust levels.

Citizens with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, the elderly, and children are advised to refrain from going outside and should wear health masks if they must go out.
