Busan maintained second place in the sea and beach category, thanks to its famous beaches like Haeundae and Gwangalli, and placed third in water sports.
There is a noted shift in the marine tourism landscape, with an emerging focus on activities like surfing and yachting. Areas like Samcheok and Yangyang are highlighted for their leisure tourism activities. Consumer insights suggest that while traditional marine destinations continue to hold their appeal, up-and-coming regions like Samcheok, Siheung, and Pohang are making their mark with innovative tourism offerings. The move from static beach activities to dynamic ones like surfing and car camping is becoming a significant factor in local governments’ branding and strategy in the tourism competition.
