The Hyundai Motor Company’s high-performance brand, “Hyundai N,” has successfully completed the “Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race” for the 10th consecutive year. Leading with the “Avante N TCR,” they achieved their fifth consecutive victory in the TCR class.
Hyundai announced on the 23rd that during the 2025 Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race (hereinafter referred to as Nürburgring 24h), held from the 21st to the 22nd in Nürburgring, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, the Avante N TCR secured the 1st and 2nd positions in the TCR class.
Nürburgring 24h is a car racing event where cars drive on the Nürburgring circuit, known as “The Green Hell,” considered one of the most challenging tracks in the world. The ranking is determined by the total number of laps driven over 24 hours.
The event is a 24-hour endurance race that primarily features race cars developed based on mass-produced vehicles. In the TCR class, which Hyundai N entered with two Avante N TCRs, the competition involved front-wheel touring race cars with an engine displacement of less than 2000cc. In the SP3T class, which they entered with one Avante N1 Cup car, the competition included mass-produced car-based race cars with engine displacements below 2000cc.
Hyundai N fielded a total of three vehicles in this year’s Nürburgring 24h, with two successfully completing the race. The Avante N TCR, competing in the TCR class, set a remarkable record by finishing the race for the 10th consecutive year.
The Avante N TCR not only achieved its fifth consecutive TCR class victory but also placed 22nd overall, once again demonstrating its excellent endurance and performance. Unfortunately, the Avante N1 Cup car, which was participating in the Nürburgring 24h for the first time, had to retire from the race after approximately 18 hours due to a collision with another race car from behind during the SP3T class.
The performance of the drivers who teamed up with Hyundai N’s race cars also grabbed attention. In the TCR class, the “Team Europe” (car number 830), comprised of drivers Manuel Lauck, Marc Basseng, and Christer Jöns, secured the victory. The “Team Americas” (car number 831), featuring Michael Lewis, Mason Filippi, Bryson Morris, and Robert Wickens, achieved second place. Particularly notable was Robert Wickens from Team Americas, who, despite being paralyzed from the waist down, completed the Nürburgring 24h using a hand control system.
In the SP3T class, where the Avante N1 Cup car (car number 303) participated, “Hyundai N Cup Team,” which included four drivers from South Korea, China, and the United States (Korean: Kyu-min Kim, Young-chan Kim; Chinese: Zhang Jian Dong; American: Jeff Ricca), competed. Among them, Young-chan Kim, who was selected as a “Hyundai Junior Driver” after performing well in last year’s Hyundai N Festival, has continued to excel on international stages, showcasing his potential for future growth.
During this Nürburgring 24h, Hyundai operated booths side by side with Toyota, delivering their collaborative spirit and passion for automobiles to global customers through motorsports. Hyundai and Toyota continue their partnership, following the co-hosting of the “Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival” at the Yongin Speedway last October, and both companies’ executives attending the final round of the 2024 WRC in Japan.
Joon-woo Park, Head of Hyundai N Management Center (Senior Vice President), stated, “We are thrilled that Hyundai N has completed the Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race for the 10th consecutive year and achieved a fifth consecutive victory in the TCR class, proving our cars’ superior endurance and performance.” He added, “Going forward, Hyundai N aims to continue expanding its expertise and product development efforts globally through activities including motorsports on the notoriously challenging Nürburgring circuit, delivering higher performance Hyundai N vehicles and driving pleasure to our customers.”
