The rain that started in the southern regions at dawn has expanded nationwide, and snow is falling in some central areas, including Seoul.
While snow and rain will stop in most areas by tonight, heavy snowfall on the east coast, which has been falling for three consecutive days, is expected to continue until tomorrow.
Let’s connect with a reporter to get a detailed weather forecast.
Reporter Kim Min-kyung, it’s snowing quite a bit in Seoul as well. Can you update us on the snow conditions?
[Reporter]
Yes, due to the developed snow clouds, snow has been falling in Seoul since around 8 a.m.
The low-pressure system that was situated southwest of the Korean Peninsula is moving northeast, affecting our country.
In the central regions, including Seoul, the temperatures are low, resulting in snow rather than rain.
Currently, a heavy snow warning is in effect in most areas of Gangwon Province, eastern Gyeonggi, North Chungcheong, and parts of Yeongnam, where a lot of snow is falling.
Going forward, the snowfall is expected to be up to 40 cm or more in the mountainous areas of Gangwon and northern Gyeongbuk, up to 10 cm in inland Gangwon and Chungcheong, 3 to 8 cm in southern Gyeonggi, and 1 to 5 cm in Seoul, North Jeolla, and Yeongnam.
Particularly, strong and heavy snow of 3 to 5 cm per hour is expected to concentrate all day in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, the east coast, and some inland areas of Yeongnam, requiring caution.
Although the snow and rain are expected to stop in most areas by tonight, it is forecasted to continue on the east coast and Jeju Island until tomorrow.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has urged extra caution for traffic safety, with the possibility of icy roads and black ice as temperatures drop below freezing from tomorrow morning in central and some southern inland areas after the snow and rain.

It’s not just the snow and rain, but also very strong winds nationwide today, right?
[Reporter]
That’s correct.
All day today, strong winds with instantaneous speeds of 15 meters per second or more are expected nationwide.
Currently, a strong wind warning is in effect on Jeju Island and some island areas in South Jeolla, and a strong wind advisory is in effect along the southern coast of South Jeolla and the Yeongnam coast.
In these areas, gusts reaching typhoon level, with maximum speeds of 20 to 26 meters per second, are expected, necessitating caution against safety accidents.
On the sea, a marine gale advisory is issued for all sea areas, and high waves reaching up to 5 meters are expected along with strong winds.
Particularly in the east coast, southern island areas, and Jeju, there could be places where high waves caused by swells exceed breakwaters or coastal roads, so it is advised to refrain from approaching the coast and to exercise extra caution.
