(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Soon-hyun: The governments of Korea and China are collaborating to protect content copyrights.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will hold the ‘2025 Korea-China Intergovernmental Copyright Meeting’ and the ‘2025 Korea-China Copyright Forum’ on the 24th at the Park Hyatt Busan in Haeundae-gu, Busan, in collaboration with the Korea Copyright Commission and China’s National Copyright Administration.
During the meeting and forum, discussions will focus on cooperation strategies between Korea and China for copyright protection, as well as changes and responses to copyright policies in line with technological advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain.
In the intergovernmental meeting, the Ministry will propose collaboration strategies to China’s National Copyright Administration for the protection of K-content copyrights within China. It plans to suggest that the Korea Copyright Commission and related domestic companies participate in the “Jianwang Campaign,” a special annual campaign conducted by the Chinese government to crack down on online copyright infringement and illegal reproduction. Additionally, there will be requests to share enforcement information and to expand royalty collection by China’s music copyright management organizations.
Furthermore, technological advancements such as the use of copyrighted materials during the AI learning stage and blockchain-based content distribution will be reviewed in terms of copyright policy trends in both countries. The discussion will also cover the roles of the two governments in securing and expanding the use of intellectual property (IP) in industries like short dramas and online games.
At the forum, 32 content companies and associations from Korea and China will participate to strengthen exchange and cooperation in the private sector. It is expected to be an opportunity for domestic content companies aspiring to enter the Chinese market to showcase the high quality and competitiveness of K-content. Various presentations will be made under the theme “The Future of Copyright Opening through Korea-China Cooperation.”
