Jeonnam Provincial Library to Run Han Kang Special Program
(Muan=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Seung-hyun = Jeonnam Provincial Library announced on the 21st that it will operate a special program commemorating author Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in Literature until the end of December.
The library will showcase Han Kang’s representative works such as “The Vegetarian” and “Human Acts,” along with her poetry, children’s books, English translations, and books recommended by the author.
They will also exhibit works by Han Kang’s father, novelist Han Seung-won.
Additionally, the library will host a “Read-through Challenge,” where participants read one Han Kang book per month, and an “Online Reading Discussion.”
There will be a section for experiencing the “Transcription Relay,” where people can write out Han Kang’s beautiful texts by hand.
To deepen the understanding of Han Kang’s literary achievements and world of works, on November 7th, they will invite Professor Kim Young-kyung from Mokpo University’s Korean Literature department for a “Literary Special Lecture.”
On November 16th, they will embark on a “Literary Tour” visiting the sites related to the Gwangju 5·18 Democratic Movement, the backdrop to “Human Acts.”
Park Yong-hak, the head of Jeonnam Provincial Library, stated, “We will conduct various programs to ensure the new reading craze brought by Han Kang spreads into a culture of reading books.”
