According to foreign media such as AP, Park Yoon-jae won first place at the Lausanne Ballet Competition (Prix de Lausanne) finals held in Lausanne, Switzerland, on the 8th (local time).

In this competition, Park Yoon-jae received the first place along with the Best Young Artist award out of the 20 finalists. He was also named as one of the nine scholarship recipients.

Among the 20 finalists, four Korean dancers including Park Yoon-jae, Kim Bo-kyoung (17), Sung Ji-min (17), and Ahn Ji-o (16) were included.

Park Yoon-jae performed the classical ballet piece “Flames of Paris” and the contemporary dance “Rain” in the finals.

In his acceptance speech, Park Yoon-jae expressed, “It’s an honor just to be standing on the stage of ‘Prix de Lausanne,’ a dream stage I’ve dreamed of since I started ballet at the age of five, but to stand in the finals and receive such a prestigious award, I’m extremely happy and it feels unbelievable.”

This is the first time a Korean male dancer has won the Lausanne Ballet Competition. In 1985, ballerina Kang Soo-jin was the first Korean to win.

The Lausanne Ballet Competition, held annually since 1973, is considered one of the world’s top five ballet competitions along with Varna, Jackson, Moscow, and Paris competitions. It is known as a gateway for dancers, with participants ranging from 15 to 18 years old.
