The National Institute of the Korean Language announced that it has added 620 headwords, which are widely used in daily life or were missing from the existing vocabulary system, to the Standard Korean Dictionary.
The newly added headwords include terms like ‘simple payment,’ ‘lonely death,’ ‘aging society,’ ‘kimari’ (fried seaweed rolls), ‘substitute driver,’ ‘jeonse crisis,’ ‘confirmed patient,’ and ‘nasolabial fold.’
Headwords are words that serve as titles for each entry in a dictionary, making it easier to find words in the dictionary.
An official from the National Institute of the Korean Language stated, “Every year, new headwords will be discovered and added to the dictionary,” and “we will refer to the opinions of users and experts to ensure the existing headwords provide accurate and comprehensive information.”
