“Wrist dance? It was done by NewJinse” … I-Land, controversy over the point choreography

"Wrist dance? Nuz

[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-joo] AleXa has stepped up with a follow-up song choreography. It has been pointed out that it is similar to Nuz’s advertising campaign.

AleXa started her follow-up song activities on the 17th of last month. She chose the track ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome’ from her 1st mini-album as the next song after ‘Magnetic’.

In the choreography for ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome,’ AleXa introduced a dance where she vibrates her wrists. It involves stretching both arms up into the air and crossing wrists like Doctor Strange.

The issue is that this choreography is quite familiar. It has been pointed out that it follows a similar structure to the ‘McDonald’s’ advertisement choreography that Nuz presented in June last year.

Last June, Nuz launched the ‘Chicken Dance Campaign.’ They signed an advertising contract with McDonald’s and targeted the Asian market with a dance challenge.

Nuz’s chicken dance also features crossing hands as a characteristic move. It involves raising both arms from side to side according to the McDonald’s CM song and making gestures that resemble wrist vibrations.

Choreographers who worked on Nuz’s choreography also brought up issues. Kim Eun-ju, the performance director, wrote on the 13th, “I’ve held back for a while, but isn’t this more than just a coincidence?”

She added, “It may be similar. However, usually when referring to something, there is at least a slight modification for courtesy, but this seems like all copy-paste.”

Black Q Performance Director also joined in. He exclaimed, “Ah, with the thoughts that were like ‘No way, no way,’ I’ve held back so far, and now it even extends to advertising choreography.”

He further commented, “The struggles of someone shouldn’t just show up like this. The processes that have led to this were by no means easy.”

Both individuals are known to have worked on Nuz’s hit song choreography. They were involved in choreographing songs like ‘Attention’ and ‘Hype boy.’

Of course, using wrist movements in a dance is not exclusive to Nuz. It is a widely popular choreography that is commonly used in dance challenges.

Nevertheless, the choice by the Bellip flap dance team is regrettable. As there have been several plagiarism controversies in the past, shouldn’t more attention be paid to the choreography of follow-up songs? If coincidences keep happening, it can only lead to misunderstandings.
