The Ministry of Employment and Labor acknowledges workplace harassment of the late Oh Yoanna at MBC… “Cannot prosecute as she was not an employee.”

The Ministry of Employment and Labor recognized workplace harassment in the case of the late Oh Yoanna at MBC. However, they determined that it is not possible to prosecute under the Labor Standards Act because Oh was not considered an employee. On the 19th, the Ministry released the results of a special labor inspection conducted by the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office and the Seoul West Office from February 11 to March 16 regarding the workplace harassment of Oh. The inspection examined not only the acts of harassment against the deceased but also the overall organizational culture and personnel management at MBC. The Ministry concluded that after Oh joined MBC in 2021, she received guidance and advice from her seniors. However, they found that actions that went beyond simple guidance or advice, and which could not be justified by work-related necessities based on social norms, were repeatedly conducted.
