Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana confirmed for “Scandal”… Bae Yong-joon and Jeon Do-yeon’s “19+ Historical Drama” Remake

Actresses Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana come together for the drama ‘Scandal.’

On the 27th, the streaming service Netflix confirmed the production of a new drama tentatively titled ‘Scandal’ and announced the casting lineup of Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana.

The drama ‘Scandal’ tells the story of Lady Jo, a woman of exceptional talent confined to living as a woman during the Joseon Dynasty, and Jo Won, the greatest lover of Joseon, engaging in a daring and dangerous love game, as well as the story of a woman named Hye-yeon entangled in the game.

‘Scandal’ is based on the 2003 movie ‘Scandal: The Love Story of Men and Women in Joseon.’ The film adapted Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ ‘Les Liaisons dangereuses,’ originally a novel about the corrupt French upper class before the French Revolution, to the Joseon era, where love and seduction were forbidden. Despite its adult rating, the film attracted 3.52 million viewers, praised for its captivating narrative and beautiful costumes and artistry, leaving viewers curious about its evolution into a Netflix drama.

Set in a time when having desires was taboo, ‘Scandal’ will vividly depict the risky love and seduction games challenging the strict Confucian order of the Joseon era.

Son Ye-jin will play Lady Jo, a talented and charming woman who defies the constraints of her time by secretly engaging in love games. She showcases her strategic prowess by proposing the game of seduction to her admirer, Jo Won.

Ji Chang-wook takes on the role of Jo Won, the notorious playboy of Joseon, who seeks pleasure and amusement over a successful career. He does not believe in love but enjoys romance, using any means necessary to win Lady Jo’s heart in the game.

Nana plays Hye-yeon, a woman who has kept her chastity after becoming a widow, trying to resist Jo Won’s advances but finds herself drawn to the mysterious feelings she develops towards him.

The drama ‘Scandal’ will be directed by Jung Ji-woo, known for films like ‘Tune in for Love’ and ‘Happy End,’ and the drama ‘Somebody.’ Writer Lee Seung-young of ‘Negotiation Skills’ and writer Ahn Hye-song, who adapted ‘Somebody,’ will participate in the script.
