[Sports Chosun – Reporter Kim Su-hyun] Actress Son Tae-young earnestly discussed the challenges of her son Luke’s college applications in the U.S.
On the 23rd, Son Tae-young shared a video titled “The Hardship of Son Tae-young Facing Her Son’s College Applications in the U.S.” on her YouTube channel ‘Mrs. New Jersey Son Tae-young’.
In the video, Son Tae-young planned to spend some enjoyable time with a friend at their regular restaurant.
Son Tae-young remarked, “I heard my friend’s son’s voice earlier, and it was astonishing how it went from baby-like to manly. It reminded her friend of how they’d always hear ‘Mom!’ despite growing up so fast,” and humorously added, “But I actually want my son to grow up quickly so I can send him off soon. Go on quickly,” drawing a laugh.
She expressed her desire for her son to enter college soon, reminiscing, “Just one year left until graduation.”
Son Tae-young anticipated her son’s graduation by saying, “It’s just one year left, one year of hardship,” while her friend commented, “I noticed some kids have already been accepted through early applications.” Son Tae-young then humorously compared early applications in the U.S. to Korea’s early admissions, saying results are announced before Christmas, adding a touch of humor with “Happy Christmas or somewhat Sad Christmas” remarks.
Discussing regular admissions, she noted, “If you don’t get admitted through early decision, it’s not necessarily sad. It’s just about whether you get to experience that joy earlier or later,” maintaining faith in her son by commenting, “Luke will handle it well.”
Son Tae-young observed that college admissions in the U.S. are different from those in Korea, explaining, “Just being good at studying doesn’t guarantee acceptance. You need to write good essays, and being good at sports is a basic requirement. The admissions process is unpredictable.”
Lastly, she added with amusement that discussions with her friend always revolve around their kids.
Meanwhile, Kwon Sang-woo and Son Tae-young got married in 2008 and have one son and one daughter. Son Tae-young has been residing in the U.S. since 2019 for her children’s education.
