[OSEN=Reporter Ha Su-jung] SBS is maintaining its position as the top in viewership by continuing to broadcast moving moments of Korean table tennis team that won Olympic medals after 12 years and the glory-filled moment when the Korean male judo player overcame the world’s No. 1 ranking to win a medal.
According to Nielsen Korea, SBS recorded a viewership rating of 7.7% for the mixed doubles bronze medal match in table tennis at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. SBS secured the top viewership rating with 6.0% for Judo Men’s 81kg player Lee Jun-hwan’s first match and 5.0% for the consecutive appearances of the ‘Golden Generation of Swimming’ in the men’s 200m individual medley. On this day, not only did a gold medal come out, but also two valuable bronze medals were won. In the table tennis mixed doubles, Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yoo-bin, who were disappointed against the Great Wall of China, cleanly defeated Hong Kong. As they confirmed the bronze medal with a 4-0 game score, the two clenched their fists tightly. Yoon Sung-ho, the caster, and ‘Table Tennis Legend’ commentator Hyun Jung-hwa couldn’t properly taste the excitement due to the overwhelming emotions.
In the 800m freestyle relay final for men (Hwang Sun-woo, Kim Woo-min, Yang Jae-hoon, Lee Ho-joon) that followed, he expressed his anticipation, saying, “It’s an honor to be able to do the commentary at a historic moment.” Unfortunately, they finished in 6th place (7 minutes 7.26 seconds), but he didn’t forget the encouragement and support towards the younger players. He patted them on the shoulder, saying, “The players may have regrets, but I hope they quickly shake it off. There’s something to be gained from this. You did well enough.” He added, “There are many more competitions in the future, so I hope they never lose their courage.” Caster Bae Sung-jae also complimented, saying, “Although we couldn’t make it to the podium, the Korean Swimming Avengers who made it to the first-ever team final of Korea in the relay were really awesome.”
In the natural atmosphere between the two before the game, their conversations evoked pleasant laughter. When Caster Bae Sung-jae mentioned, “Commentator Park Tae-hwan will hand out cards,” Park Tae-hwan responded, “I hope there will be an opportunity to buy something delicious as a reward for their hard work. They are representing our country, so there is no limit.”
SBS is broadcasting archery men’s and women’s individual rounds, table tennis men’s and women’s singles round of 16, fencing men’s sabre team event, judo men’s 90kg, and swimming men’s 200m backstroke on the 31st.
