Park Soo-hong personally visited and supported a pregnant woman who was expecting her fifth child, but she faced a life-threatening situation due to a cerebral hemorrhage shortly after giving birth.
On the episode of TV Chosun’s “Our Baby is Born Again” aired on the 21st, Park Soo-hong and Kim Jong-min met an Air Force couple living as a mom and dad to four children and helped them prepare for childbirth.
The day before the childbirth of the Air Force couple, newlywed groom of six months Kim Jong-min and new dad Park Soo-hong arrived at the Air Force base. During their meeting with the couple, Park Soo-hong noted, “The child is going to have a sibling by tomorrow, so there must be a strong sense of deprivation. The child is so cute and looks like a doll,” feeling overwhelmed while observing a child clinging to its mother.
Kim Jong-min, upon arriving at the home filled with four distinctly different children, remarked, “It’s hectic, but they’re beautiful,” as he adapted to the bustling household. When he saw the wife’s pregnant belly, he was surprised and asked, “You already have four children, and you’re having another one?”
The wife explained, “I’m currently pregnant with the fifth child. The baby’s nickname is ‘Strawberry’. Having two children felt too few, and three is an odd number, so…” she elaborated on their decision to have more children. When asked, “What if the youngest is too adorable?” she replied, “We’ll leave it up to the will of heaven.” She mentioned that they had plans to have four children even before marriage, citing the joy and happiness their children bring. She stated that she and her husband are considering a sixth child, with her husband fully on board. After the childbirth, her husband took paternity leave and took care of the children. Park Soo-hong commented, “Having taken care of children myself, it was tougher than the time I spent sleeplessly and camping on cold grounds during ‘1 Night 2 Days.’ But it’s truly touching,” surprising Kim Jong-min who replied, “Really?”
Amid increasing labor pains, the couple called medical staff, and the wife struggled with severe pain even during the necessary examination. Despite the challenges, the happiness brought by the children helped her endure her fifth pregnancy. After hours of labor, she safely gave birth to a child nicknamed ‘Strawberry’.
However, a few days later, they received an urgent call informing them that the mother, who had happily said “See you tomorrow,” had collapsed due to a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. The husband shared, “My wife is currently unconscious, just breathing. She successfully gave birth and was discharged. But on the fourth day at the postpartum care center, she suddenly mentioned having a headache. We never imagined it could be a cerebral hemorrhage; we thought it was just a simple headache.”
He added, “While receiving IV fluids in the emergency room, she said ‘I can’t see anything,’ and it became serious as she also vomited.”
The CT scan revealed a severe hemorrhage, and she was immediately taken in for emergency surgery, also with severe cerebral edema. The doctor explained, “Even though the hemorrhage was removed surgically, we had to remove part of the skull. She was in a situation critical enough to be on the verge of brain death.”
Ten days later, she regained consciousness. Beginning rehabilitation to meet her children, she met her first son after 40 days and broke down in tears. The son comforted her saying, “I missed you, mom.”
The wife shared, “I’ve improved a lot after surgery. While it’s difficult to move around, I can do everything else,” but tears flowed as she admitted, “Not being able to see the children is hard.”
