Na In-woo was recognized by the national team coach, but 4th grade? … Backlash after military exemption

Na In-woo received a Grade 4 supplemental service designation during his military service physical examination and, having waited three years without being called for duty, he ultimately received an exemption from military service. Recently, news broke about his exemption, sparking curiosity as to why Na In-woo, known for his athletic prowess in various entertainment shows and dramas, received a Grade 4 classification.

His agency, Hanada Company, announced on the 17th that Na In-woo had been exempted from military service after waiting to be called for social service. Despite receiving the Grade 4 designation, he became exempt as he did not receive a summons from the Military Manpower Administration for three years. According to military law, those who are not summoned within three years of receiving a Grade 4 classification can be exempted, with over 11,800 people receiving exemptions after waiting three years this year alone.

People have expressed curiosity about the reasons behind Na In-woo’s Grade 4 classification. Na In-woo gained attention through tvN’s “Mr. Queen” and rose to a leading role starting with KBS 2TV’s “River Where the Moon Rises.” Despite having to reshoot scenes to replace another actor embroiled in controversy, he impressed many with his dedication and energy.

He also displayed remarkable athleticism on KBS 2TV’s “1 Night 2 Days Season 4,” where he was praised by national coach Kim Sik for his skills during bobsleigh training. Na In-woo has mentioned exercise as a hobby in multiple interviews and has been recognized for his athletic abilities, which has further fueled curiosity about his military classification.

Under military law, Grades 1 through 3 are for active duty enlistment, and Grade 4 is for supplemental service. Since October 2021, those who receive a Grade 4 classification are eligible to serve active duty if they choose to. Achieving a Grade 4 typically involves having certain physical or psychological conditions, or specific family situations that affect service eligibility.

Na In-woo’s agency has not disclosed why he received a Grade 4 classification. Meanwhile, Na In-woo appeared in tvN’s “Please Marry My Husband” earlier this year and is currently filming as the lead in MBC’s upcoming drama “Motel California,” set to air next January.
