[SC Review] Kim Tae-won Pardoned for Marijuana and Stomach Cancer… ♥ Lee Hyun-joo Allows Daughter’s Wedding Attendance in Korea (‘Lovers’)

On the TV Chosun show ‘Joseon’s Lovers’ aired on the 24th, the episode showed Kim Tae-won trying to persuade his wife, Lee Hyun-joo, so he could attend their daughter Kim Seo-hyun’s wedding.
Kim Tae-won was charged twice for marijuana in 1987 and 1991, preventing him from obtaining a U.S. visa. This situation has also kept him from meeting his future son-in-law, Devin. If his daughter were to hold her wedding in the U.S., he would not be able to attend.
To address this, Kim Tae-won asked his daughter if she was willing to have a wedding in Korea. She replied that she would consider it if her mother could be convinced.
Lee Hyun-joo had been opposed to a wedding in Korea due to significant emotional struggles over the years. She and Kim Tae-won met and married at the ages of 18 and 17, respectively, but their romantic story didn’t last long. Their happiness was shattered when their son, Woo-hyun, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Lee Hyun-joo moved to the Philippines with their two children, thinking it was the best decision for their son’s development since the country had better programs for developmental disorders. However, the result was disastrous. Seo-hyun, who had always been pushed aside because of her brother’s condition, suffered severe depression at a young age, and Kim Tae-won’s health deteriorated.
During a health check mission on ‘Qualifications of Men,’ Kim Tae-won discovered he had stomach cancer and went to the Philippines to receive treatment, where his family resided. Luckily, the cancer was cured, but he suffered from sepsis in 2016 and 2019, resulting in loss of smell and damage to his vision and hearing.
Lee Hyun-joo confessed, “Woo-hyun has been on the autism spectrum since birth, and Seo-hyun struggled with severe depression. Seo-hyun improved a lot after meeting Devin, but Woo-hyun and Kim Tae-won are still a work in progress.” She tearfully added, “When Seo-hyun was a baby, I often neglected her due to Woo-hyun’s condition. That’s why she changed so drastically. Now, Seo-hyun understands everything.”
Kim Tae-won expressed his remorse towards Lee Hyun-joo by singing his self-composed song ‘Walk.’ Lee Hyun-joo eventually agreed to the Korean wedding, stating, “A wedding without a father doesn’t make sense.”
