Comedian Shin Dong-yeop indirectly mentioned his past criminal act again.
On the 16th, actor Kwon Yool appeared as a guest on SBS’s ‘My Ugly Duckling.’
In the recent SBS drama ‘Connection’ that he is currently appearing in, fans asked him, “You act so well, I’ve been watching since the first episode. But did you really do drugs?” Upon hearing this, Kwon Yool replied in surprise, “No, it’s only in the drama.”
When Kwon Yool mentioned that he is only a third-year elite prosecutor, fans joked, “I should take the judicial exam once.” To this, Kwon Yool responded, “Substantive examination for arrest warrants is often mentioned,” then Shin Dong-yeop interjected, “How do I know? I’ve watched a lot of legal dramas, I like courtroom dramas,” shaking off the tension.
Previously, in 1999, Shin Dong-yeop was arrested for smuggling marijuana into the United States and smoking it. However, while guilty of marijuana smoking, he was deemed not guilty of smuggling and was fined 20 million KRW.
In one broadcast, Shin Dong-yeop mentioned, “I sometimes talk about this on the show. As children grow up, they search the internet. I showed it in advance. Before searching, I showed it. It wasn’t me who showed it, it was my wife. I think it’s good education.” Some criticized him for indirectly glorifying his criminal act. After watching the episode, netizens also left comments on various communities such as “Is marijuana something to boast about?” and “It doesn’t look good to keep mentioning it when you have children.”
It seems that Shin Dong-yeop, conscious of this criticism, appeared on JTBC2’s ‘Night of Hate Comments’ in 2019, saying, “As the children grow up, they mentioned that the father committed a wrong and received punishment. Regardless of the reason, one should never commit a criminal act.”
