[Sports Chosun Reporter Baek Ji-eun] Koo Jun-yeop from Clon is facing a series of unfortunate events. Reports suggest that he might lose not only his wife, Seo Hee-won, who suddenly passed away, but also her inheritance and custody of her children.
On the 3rd, Chinese media outlets including Wu Xiaonan reported that Koo Jun-yeop and Seo Hee-won did not register their marriage in Taiwan. Although they were legally married in Korea, they had not completed the marriage registration in Taiwan.
This situation could lead to complications regarding inheritance distribution and custody rights. A lawyer mentioned that if Seo Hee-won had already prepared a will, the inheritance would be distributed accordingly. If not, the inheritance would be divided equally among Koo Jun-yeop and the two children. However, since Koo Jun-yeop is not the biological father and did not register the marriage, he could potentially lose both his inheritance share and custody rights.
Additionally, since Seo Hee-won had ongoing legal disputes with her former husband, Wang Xiaofei, there is speculation that Koo Jun-yeop might take over these lawsuits. Although Seo Hee-won is deceased, her heirs intend to continue the lawsuits, implying that Koo Jun-yeop might demand child support from Wang Xiaofei. However, as the biological father, Wang Xiaofei, who owns assets exceeding 100 billion won, may reclaim custody. Wang Xiaofei’s mother, and Seo Hee-won’s former mother-in-law, Zhang Lan, has also expressed strong attachment to the children, suggesting that legal disputes are inevitable.
Koo Jun-yeop and Seo Hee-won had dated for about a year in 1998 before parting ways. Seo Hee-won later married Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei in 2011 and had a son and a daughter. They divorced in 2021. After learning about the divorce, Koo Jun-yeop reached out to Seo Hee-won, and the couple reunited and married in 2022. However, Seo Hee-won tragically passed away from acute pneumonia while traveling in Japan on February 2.
