BTS’s Jimin has set another new record on the world’s largest music streaming platform, Spotify, showcasing his global music prowess. His solo album’s second title track, “Who,” surpassed 1.3 billion streams on January 7th, achieving this milestone just 171 days after its release. This marks a new fastest record among Asian artists.
This achievement comes two days earlier than when Harry Styles set the previous record of the shortest time for a male solo artist to reach this number with his solo track “As it was,” which he accomplished in 173 days. It also ranks as the fourth-fastest in Spotify’s history, following tracks by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish, and Sabrina Carpenter.
Previously, Jimin’s first album “FACE” with its title track “Like Crazy” also surpassed 1.3 billion streams on Spotify in October last year, making him the first and only Korean solo artist to have two solo tracks with over 1.3 billion streams on the platform.
Meanwhile, despite the lack of collaborations or promotional activities with prominent Western artists, “Who,” released on July 19, 2023, continues its long-term success globally. The interlude track “Interlude : Showtime” recently reached 50 million streams on January 6th, with all seven tracks from the “MUSE” album surpassing 50 million streams each.
The “MUSE” album, not only with the title track “Who” but all its tracks, has been consistently loved by global listeners. In a record shortest period for a Korean solo album on Spotify, the album surpassed 2.2 billion streams in just 171 days, following the initial success of “FACE,” which has approximately 2.5 billion streams, making it the second-most streamed Korean solo album.
