[Sports Today Reporter Seo Ji-hyun] Actor and director Yang Ik-june expressed his frustration regarding his assault case.
Director Yang held a press conference on the afternoon of the 5th at a pub in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, to address the allegations of assault and abusive language against him.
Previously, Director Yang was accused of hitting the head of his acquaintance, Mr. Choi, multiple times with a paper wad and using abusive language on December 13 of last year. The case was forwarded without detention to the Northern Seoul District Public Prosecutors’ Office last month.
Regarding this issue, Director Yang stated, “The stories Mr. Choi has shared with the media, police, and prosecutors are contrary to what I know as the facts and truth, and they are being exaggerated maliciously.”
Yang continued, “This process is ongoing. It may seem like it has stopped since there are no reports, but it is continuing. We actually reconciled midway. There was a mediator. At that time, the mediator and Mr. Choi wrote an agreement, and I said ‘okay.’ I also requested reconciliation over the phone.”
However, Director Yang explained the reason for holding the press conference: “Even so, for some unknown reason, Mr. Choi continues the process. He said he can’t withdraw the complaint. He said investigations should proceed, and if it goes to trial, I should receive punishment, while resolving the agreement separately. I don’t understand.”
Additionally, Director Yang emphasized, “Mr. Choi is not an industry person. From his interviews with the media, he mentioned, ‘The industry is small, and having a rift with Yang Ik-june could lead to disadvantages.’ Mr. Choi has never worked in the feature film or drama industry and only started getting involved in films a few years ago. It’s being portrayed as if there was an issue with industry staff, but that’s not the case. He’s neither more nor less than an amateur aspiring filmmaker. Like others who participated in short film workshops that my friends and I run, Mr. Choi worked together with some assistance. He lacks any official project experience or filmography.”
