The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Holds Meeting Ahead of Trump Administration’s Inauguration to Discuss Export Support

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is set to host a series of comprehensive seminars in key marine and fisheries sectors ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration next year.

Today (the 3rd), the ministry announced that it plans to hold meetings targeting industries and organizations related to the marine and fisheries sector, which are closely cooperating between South Korea and the United States.

The first seminar, scheduled for tomorrow (the 4th), will focus on “Sustainable Growth of the Seafood Export Industry,” involving seafood export companies, related institutions, and experts.

In particular, the discussions will share export support policies considering the outlook due to strengthened protectionism, such as the universal tariff in the U.S., and the seafood consumption trends within the United States. Strategies for expanding exports in the future will also be discussed.

Subsequent meetings will gather various perspectives and prepare responses across four additional sessions focusing on marine science and technology, international logistics supply chains, and U.S.-based marine and fisheries businesses.

Minister Kang Do-hyung of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries remarked, “There are both expectations and concerns within the fisheries industry regarding the inauguration of the new U.S. administration. We will thoroughly examine issues like seafood exports to the U.S. and logistics supply chain matters to ensure our companies can respond stably.”
