The government has begun improvements on azimuth facilities at six airports nationwide, aiming for completion by the end of the year.

The government is set to actively promote improvement projects for the foundation structures (localizer) of defense facilities at six airports nationwide, including Muan International Airport.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Airports Corporation announced that they will be posting a bid notice for the detailed design from today (7th) to the 17th for six airports: Muan, Yeosu, Gimhae, Sacheon, Gwangju, and Pohang Gyeongju airports.

This move considers the incident at Muan Airport last December, where the localizer’s concrete structure led to extensive damage during a Jeju Air accident.

Once the bidding procedures are finalized, the design work will commence at the end of this month, and construction will be carried out sequentially at each airport, with the government aiming to complete all improvement work by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Jeju Airport, which is constructed with an H-shaped steel frame, will undergo additional structural analysis before deciding on the direction for improvements.
