Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin, who was reported to have met with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, returned to Korea via Incheon International Airport on the afternoon of the 22nd last month. According to business circles on the 8th, Chairman Chung will attend Trump’s inauguration ceremony on the 20th (local time) in Washington, D.C.
Chairman Chung is reportedly the only figure from the Korean business community invited to not only attend the inauguration but also the inaugural ball, which the Trumps themselves are expected to attend.
Last month, Chairman Chung stayed at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, after being invited by Donald Trump Jr., the President-elect’s son, where he had a brief meeting with the President-elect.
Upon returning to Korea, when asked by reporters at Incheon Airport about the inauguration invitation, Chairman Chung responded that he had not received any special communication about the inauguration. However, he added that if a request to participate is made once the government delegation is formed, he would gladly accept.
