Plant-based bio materials to be added to furniture… Hanssem-LG Chem sign MOU

Hanssem and LG Chem have collaborated to develop eco-friendly molded materials for furniture, using plant-based bio-materials, marking a world-first in this field. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and are set to penetrate the furniture molded materials market, which is estimated to be worth approximately 500 billion won. LG Chem’s eco-friendly plant-based material ‘LETZero’ bio ASA, known for its reduced carbon emissions and minimal discoloration, will be utilized in this initiative.

Hanssem plans to produce molded materials by applying LETZero ASA surface materials onto eco-friendly E0 grade Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), enhancing safety for kitchen or wardrobe doors. The materials will feature ‘Super Clean Coating’ for easy and thorough removal of contaminants, providing management convenience and high durability.

Most existing furniture molded materials are difficult to recycle and are often incinerated upon disposal, contributing to carbon emissions. The eco-friendly furniture molded materials developed through this partnership are expected to reduce carbon emissions, contributing positively to the environment.

A representative from Hanssem stated, “Leveraging the product research and development strengths of Hanssem SCM Division and extensive distribution network of our Interior Construction Materials Sales Division, we will pioneer the market. As the leader in the home interior industry, Hanssem aims to further increase its market share in the furniture molded materials sector through this MOU.”
