Designation of April Special Industrial Complex, discussion on successful establishment and early achievements with participating companies
The Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) and Jeollanam-do Province held a meeting on April 8th at the Energy Valley Business Development Center in Naju, Jeollanam-do to review the progress of the special industrial complex project and hold a meeting to listen to the voices of small and medium venture companies in the DC industry.
The ‘Global Innovation Special Zone’ is a cluster where minimum regulations (negative regulations) and global standards such as certification, authentication, permits, and insurance are applied for the development of advanced products and services and overseas expansion. SMBA designated Jeollanam-do (DC industry) as a special zone on April 30th.
At the meeting, about 40 representatives from SMBA, Jeollanam-do, Naju City, Korea Electric Power Corporation, UL Solutions (an American safety standard development and certification agency), and Green NS participated. They shared and discussed the current status and direction of the special zone project, future schedules, etc.
The participating companies at the meeting conveyed the challenges and improvements needed for business promotion in the DC power distribution technology, such as the lack of domestic regulations and systems for DC companies, obtaining certifications for overseas expansion, and international joint research and development (R&D) support.
SMBA and related officials stated, “We will closely cooperate with Jeollanam-do and Naju City on the challenges and suggestions of companies,” and said, “The government will continue to collaborate to ensure the successful implementation of the Global Innovation Special Zone.”
Jeollanam-do mentioned, “As carbon neutrality becomes a global ideology and goal, the world is expanding the share of renewable energy for carbon neutrality” and stated, “As there is a lack of regulations for DC power distribution, we will listen to the voices on-site and work together to successfully lead the global innovation special zone in the DC industry.”
