LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI Target ESS at ‘InterBattery Europe 2025’

LG Energy Solution has unveiled new European LFP-based ESS products, while Samsung SDI is showcasing optimal batteries for AI data centers.

LG Energy Solution disclosed that at the InterBattery event, it would introduce new European LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate)-based energy storage system (ESS) products. Meanwhile, Samsung SDI is presenting batteries for AI data center uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

The Korea Battery Industry Association, KOTRA, and COEX will host ‘InterBattery Europe 2025’ from the 7th to the 9th at the Messe Munich exhibition and convention center in Germany.

LG Energy Solution announced on the 6th that it will participate in InterBattery under the theme “Awakening the world with energy, providing sustainable solutions anytime and anywhere.” At this event, LG Energy Solution will reveal new 20-foot standard container-type grid ESS products with European-manufactured LFP cells. The new ESS product features the dedicated ESS LFP cell, JF2S, which is set to be produced at the Wroclaw plant in Poland, boasting about 2.7 times the energy capacity compared to the previous JF1.

The production of ESS batteries on a dedicated line at the Wroclaw facility is planned to commence by the end of this year.

Targeting the European market, LG Energy Solution is also introducing the JF1R home ESS product, offering up to a 15-year quality warranty and improved State of Charge estimation accuracy (SoX).

Additionally, the high-power battery system for UPS targeting the AI data center market is also on display. The LG Energy Solution UPS battery system is designed for installation in compact spaces and maximizes backup power, integrating a standalone power supply (SMPS) capable of independent operation without an external power source, enhancing both reliability and operational efficiency.

At this exhibition, LG Energy Solution will also debut a pilot version of the battery passport system to comply with the EU Battery Regulation. The battery passport is a system for digitalizing and managing information spanning from the battery’s production to disposal, including its performance, chemical composition, and carbon footprint. The experience gained from developing the pilot version will be used to create and operate an in-house Battery Regulation Management (BRM) system.

Hyung-Sik Kim, head of LG Energy Solution’s ESS Battery Business Division, emphasized that the company is addressing customer needs in the rapidly growing European market for grid, residential, and UPS ESS solutions through local production systems. “We will thoroughly adapt to the changing policy environment and provide integrated solutions equipped with both software and hardware, solidifying our leadership in the European ESS market,” he stated.

Samsung SDI is showcasing new U8A1 batteries for AI data center UPS at the exhibition, designed to optimize power supply during outages and stabilize power quality during temporary power demand surges. UPS systems equipped with U8A1 can reduce installation space by approximately 33% compared to previous-generation products.

The Samsung SDI Battery Box (SBB)1.5, housed in a 20-foot container box, includes battery cells, modules, racks, safety devices, and air conditioning facilities. It is a large-capacity (5.26MWh) end product that is ready to use once connected to the power grid.

At the exhibition, Samsung SDI also introduces prismatic batteries optimized for electric vehicles and ESS, highlighting a self-developed safety technology called ‘No TP (No Thermal Propagation)’ designed to prevent heat propagation when issues occur in specific cells of battery products.

Samsung SDI is emphasizing its ongoing eco-friendly initiatives by obtaining carbon footprint certification from the global environmental certification organization, Carbon Trust. During the event, Samsung SDI intends to participate in ‘Battery Day Europe,’ organized by KOTRA, where they plan to make a keynote speech.

An official from Samsung SDI stated, “We will introduce innovative and enhanced safety batteries optimal for the AI era at this exhibition,” and added, “We aim to lead the market with advanced battery technology.”
