Huh Tae-soo, Chairman of GS, “Let’s Create Business Impact with Physical AI” [New Year’s Address]

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Shin Hang-seop: Huh Tae-soo, Chairman of GS Group, emphasized proactive response to change and called for tangible business outcomes through Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the new year begins.

In a New Year’s address on the 29th, Chairman Huh stated, “Let’s not just observe change but step ahead and execute it to complete the outcome,” urging the combination of domain knowledge accumulated from field experience with physical AI and bold partnerships with external tech companies to demonstrate business impact.

Chairman Huh evaluated last year as particularly challenging due to the global supply chain changes and rapid AI transitions affecting the overall business environment, expressing genuine gratitude to all employees for their dedicated efforts despite such conditions.

Looking ahead to continued uncertainty, Huh called for strengthening core business competitiveness as a starting point to overcome crises.

He noted, “With ongoing low oil prices and potential demand slowdown, coupled with structural changes in the energy and chemical industries, it is essential to proactively handle these changes, maintain profitability, and meticulously prepare for risks.”

Despite the rapidly changing market environment, he identified clear opportunities, highlighting that the structural increase in power demand due to AI proliferation, energy transition, expanded investments in AI and semiconductor industries, global supply chain restructuring, and demographic changes are forming a new business landscape, offering GS diverse related business opportunities.

He stressed that, by organically consolidating the group’s capabilities, they can create new business opportunities and secure market-leading competitiveness.

Chairman Huh expressed his intent to make the new year the inaugural year for realizing ‘AI Business Impact’ significantly.

“Our members have used AI as a tool to continue numerous innovative attempts, which are gradually manifesting in field changes,” he said. “Now it’s time to combine field-oriented domain knowledge with physical AI and establish bold partnerships with external tech companies to achieve substantial results.”

He concluded, “Change always comes faster than our preparations. If we don’t keep up, we’ll inevitably fall behind. The more uncertain the times, the clearer our direction must be. Let’s focus our capabilities on what GS excels at and prove change through execution and outcomes.”
