“Headquarters, step up”… The Born Korea Franchisee Association demands response to YouTube slander

“Unfounded Malicious Content Affects Sales”… Emergency Coexistence Committee to Convene This Month

Theborn Korea is planning to convene an ‘Emergency Coexistence Committee’ within this month to address damages inflicted on franchisees by malicious YouTube content.

According to the company on the 8th, the franchisee councils of Baekdabang, Hongkong Banjeom, Saemaeul Restaurant, Hanshin Pocha, and Yeokjeon Udon requested Theborn Korea on the 7th to hold a committee meeting regarding certain YouTubers. The councils claimed that the ‘Baek Jong-won Series’ on YouTube repeatedly makes unverified, defamatory claims with provocative titles, urging the headquarters to respond.

The request letter mentioned that false comments and rumors based on video content are spreading freely, and some video titles include expressions like “Goodbye Baek Jong-won,” suggesting it is a clear targeted broadcast.

The councils assert that the content is having a negative impact on franchise sales and also referenced the need for regulation of fake news spread through YouTube, as highlighted by the Lee Jae-myung administration.

Theborn Korea, which has not responded separately to YouTube content so far, is now considering thorough and strong countermeasures, given the franchisees’ request.

A company representative explained, “Franchisees are suffering due to a particular YouTuber who repeatedly spreads unfounded falsehoods,” and added, “We are preparing measures to prevent further spread.”
