GS Engineering & Construction Enhances Structural Safety with AI… Files Patent for Automated Blueprint Review Technology

GS Engineering & Construction has announced on the 27th that it has developed an ‘AI Structural Document Review System’ that automates the design review process at construction sites and has recently completed a patent application.

According to GS Engineering & Construction, this technology is designed to automatically recognize and structure design drawings based on a large language model (LLM), allowing it to identify errors and compare and record differences between revised drawings.

In the past, frequent design changes and various drafting sources led to a constant risk of discrepancies between drawings. Relying on humans to compare drawings increased the potential for errors, and managing change logs systematically was challenging.

To address these issues, GS Engineering & Construction collaborated with AI solution company Teamwork starting in 2024 to develop the system. After pilot applications at some sites, they successfully filed for a patent.

With this system, design changes are automatically documented, facilitating systematic version control, and a cloud-based collaborative environment has been established, making real-time issue sharing between departments smoother.

A GS Engineering & Construction representative stated, “We plan to proactively adopt AI technology for repetitive or high-risk tasks to prevent human errors and industrial accidents while enhancing structural safety from design to construction.”

Since the beginning of this year, President Yoon-hong Heo has emphasized that “AI is not a choice but a survival issue,” aligning with the trend toward AI-centered digital transformation. In addition to this system, GS Engineering & Construction has improved communication with foreign workers through the AI voice translation program, “ZaiVoice,” and implemented the AI-based construction manual system, “ZaiBook,” on sites to enable easy search and utilization of extensive construction standards. The company plans to further expand AI applications into the construction phase, including AI-based design adequacy review and drone/robot-linked automatic rebar installation inspection.
