**Chris Turner, VP: “An Opportunity to Showcase Google Maps’ Capabilities”**
Google welcomed the South Korean government’s conditional approval for exporting high-precision maps. Chris Turner, Vice President of Government Relations, Policy, and Information at Google, expressed through a statement distributed by Google Korea, “We sincerely welcome the South Korean government’s decision to approve the export of maps and are very pleased to have the opportunity to showcase Google Maps’ capabilities in Korea.”
Turner emphasized that this decision marks significant progress, and Google looks forward to establishing specific service implementation plans while closely working with the government and local partners to support Korea’s growth.
He added, “Google will continue to be a committed and responsible partner in Korea’s digital ecosystem, striving to highlight Korea’s innovative capabilities through Google Maps and make Korea’s strengths known worldwide.”
On the same day, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held a meeting at the National Geographic Information Institute in Youngtong District, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, to discuss the possibility of exporting a 1:5000 high-precision map. They decided to permit the export under conditions such as security measures, coordinate display restrictions, and the use of domestic servers.
