Choi Joong-kyung, the former Minister of Knowledge Economy, has been appointed as the International Investment Cooperation Ambassador. Ambassador Choi will support economic diplomacy activities to enhance South Korea’s international credibility and maintain the momentum of foreign investment.
On the 6th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy announced the appointment of former Minister Choi as the International Investment Cooperation Ambassador, a position designated for individuals with expertise and recognition in their fields to aid government diplomatic activities. The appointment was made after deliberations by the Cabinet and was officiated by Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Strategy and Finance. This position is a one-year term.
A government official stated, “Ambassador Choi, who began his public service after passing the 22nd Civil Service Examination in 1979, has extensive experience and expertise across various economic and industrial sectors. He has served as the Minister of Knowledge Economy, President of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. His background includes serving as an Executive Director at the World Bank, Ambassador to the Philippines, and current President of the Korea-America Association, making him an ideal candidate to enhance Korea’s international reputation.”
Ambassador Choi intends to conduct interviews with domestic and international foreign investors and representatives of relevant organizations, visit overseas institutions related to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), meet with key figures, and promote the country at overseas investment seminars (IRs) to maintain and expand the momentum of foreign investment.
