Concept Becomes ‘Real’… Hyundai’s MobED Wins Top Innovation Award [CES Live]

First CES Innovation Award and Highest Rating Achieved Simultaneously – Official Recognition of Technological Prowess
[Las Vegas, by Dasol Do] Hyundai Motor has officially recognized its future robotics technology by winning the Best of Innovation Award in the robotics category at CES 2026. The significance lies in confirming its technological competitiveness on a global stage as the platform, originally starting as a concept model, has evolved into a mass production stage.

“On the 4th (local time), Hyundai Motor won the Best of Innovation Award in the robotics section at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, USA for its autonomous mobility robot platform ‘MobED’. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which oversees CES, awards the Best of Innovation Award to products that receive the highest scores in each category based on comprehensive evaluations of innovation, design, and technological competitiveness.”

This marks Hyundai’s first innovation award at CES. Notably, being selected for the Best of Innovation Award in the robotics category has secured external evaluation of its technical competitiveness. Initially unveiled as a concept at CES 2022, MobED underwent a three-year development process to emerge as a mass-produced model at the International Robot Exhibition (iREX) in Japan last year.

MobED’s core competitiveness lies in its driving stability with reduced terrain constraints. Its eccentric wheel-based Drive-and-Lift (DnL) module enables active body balance control in environments with slopes and bumps, making it widely applicable across various industrial environments such as logistics, delivery, and filming. The platform also emphasizes expandability as it is designed with a structure that allows easy integration of upper modules.

The user interface has been enhanced for intuitiveness as well. A dedicated controller implemented with a 3D graphics-based touchscreen allows even non-experts to operate it easily. MobED can reach up to 10 km/h and operate for over 4 hours on a single charge, with a load capacity ranging between 47 to 57 kg depending on the lineup.

The lineup consists of a research and development ‘Basic’ model and a ‘Pro’ model equipped with AI-based autonomous driving technology. The Pro model is designed to achieve safe and efficient autonomous driving in complex indoor and outdoor environments by applying Lidar and camera fusion sensors. Hyundai plans to begin mass production in the first quarter of this year and start official customer sales.

Hyundai’s robotics lab head Hyung-jin Hyeon stated, “This award showcases how Hyundai’s robotics technology is evolving to enhance everyday value,” adding, “Just like how we re-introduced the MobED concept model from CES four years ago as a mass-production model this year, we will continue to develop AI-based robot autonomous driving technology to get closer to our customers.”

Meanwhile, CES 2026 visitors can directly witness MobED’s technology presentation and live demonstrations at Hyundai Motor Group’s exhibition hall.
