On the morning of the 7th, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won issued a public apology at the SUPEX Hall of SK Telecom T-Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul, regarding the hacking incident at SK Telecom. He promised to do his best to resolve the issue.
Chairman Chey attended the daily briefing on the hacking incident held at SK Telecom’s headquarters in Seoul. He stated, “The recent cyber breach at SK Telecom has caused anxiety and inconvenience to customers and the public. I apologize on behalf of SK Group.”
He also expressed his regret to customers who experienced inconvenience while visiting stores or those who worried about potential impacts, especially those with urgent schedules like imminent international travel.
Regarding the waiver of contract termination fees, Chairman Chey mentioned that both user equity issues and legal matters need to be considered. He noted that the SK Telecom board is currently discussing the issue. However, as he is not a board member, he could not provide additional information.
Chairman Chey thanked the 24 million customers who trusted and subscribed to the USIM protection service. He also shared that he did not replace his mobile USIM and has subscribed to the protection service.
Furthermore, he stated that SK Group would actively cooperate with the government investigation to determine the cause of the hacking incident. The group plans to comprehensively review and increase investment in their entire security infrastructure.
Chey assured the public of SK Group’s dedication to resolving the issue, and he expressed his commitment to preventing future incidents by strengthening security measures across all SK affiliates.
