Choi Sang-mok to Visit the U.S. Next Week…”U.S. Treasury Secretary Proposes Meeting on Trade Issues”

Choi Sang-mok, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, is speaking at the Economic Ministers’ Meeting and the Industrial Competitiveness Strengthening Ministers’ Meeting held at the Seoul Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 15th. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 16th, Choi Sang-mok will visit Washington, D.C. next week to attend the G20 Finance Ministers’ Meeting and meet U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.

The U.S. Treasury has proposed holding talks on trade issues during Deputy Prime Minister Choi’s visit for the G20 meeting. Typically, bilateral finance ministers’ meetings discuss financial and foreign exchange issues, but it appears that recent emerging trade issues will also be addressed.

Previously, the United States designated five allied countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and India, as priority countries for trade negotiations and started the first ministerial-level negotiations with Japan on this day.

The government is coordinating detailed participants and schedules after receiving a request from the U.S. Treasury.
