Acquired Operation Safety Certification: “Baedal Minjok introduces a new model of its delivery robot, Dilly. The payload capacity has been increased and driving performance has been improved, enabling a more efficient robot delivery service.”
The company Woowa Brothers, which operates Baedal Minjok, announced on the 23rd that the third model of their delivery robot, Dilly, received the outdoor mobility robot operation safety certification from the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement on the 17th. Current laws require this certification for operating delivery robots in areas classified as sidewalks.
The next-generation model has been enhanced overall to perform deliveries more reliably than the previous versions. The wheels are larger, allowing the robot to navigate low curbs, and ramp performance has also been improved.
To increase delivery efficiency, the payload compartment and battery have also been upgraded. The new model can carry up to 18 bottles of 2-liter water, whereas the previous model could carry about six. The battery capacity has increased by nearly 30%, allowing for longer operation times. Additionally, LED flags have been installed so that car drivers can more easily recognize the delivery robots on side streets.
The newly certified model is set to be deployed on-site starting this August. It will be capable of navigating steeper roads, thereby expanding its service areas. In addition to B Mart deliveries, it is expected to be able to deliver food as well.
Since February, Baemin has been piloting its robot delivery service in parts of Nonhyeon-dong and Yeoksam-dong in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Despite the heavy and complex traffic on Gangnam’s side streets, the robots have been providing a stable delivery service with an average delivery time of about 30 minutes.
Customer surveys have also yielded positive feedback. Given the area’s high proportion of single-person households and the lack of nearby large supermarkets, the robots have delivered an economical and convenient shopping service. In a service satisfaction survey conducted with users, 9 out of 10 respondents said they would use the service again, recording high satisfaction across all service and benefit categories.
Hwang Hyun-kyu, Head of the Robot Product Strategy Team at Woowa Brothers, stated, “We expect the new Dilly model to provide faster and more stable delivery services to our customers. We will continue to enhance the service to deliver satisfying experiences to consumers in various regions.”
